Chapter Twelve

“Thanks for driving me to get my Bronco.” I shut Alex’s door and opened my driver’s side door for Needles to fly in. “I really appreciate it. Don’t forget to drop off the crumpled note tonight so Finn can get to it tomorrow.”

“I won’t.” He turned me around and drew me close. “I guess this is goodbye. Seeing as how you’re spending the night with Serena at The Spellmoore.”

I grinned and wound my arms around his neck. “I guess it is.”

He lowered his mouth to mine, and I lost myself in the feel of his lips and his body pressed against me. I’m not sure how long we stood there lost in our kiss…but I soon became aware of a thumping sound behind me. Breaking off the kiss, I turned and saw Needles’ face plastered against the back window, his little paw pounding on the glass.

I sighed. “I guess this means good night.”

Alex grinned and kissed me quickly again. “I guess so.”

His cell phone beeped, and he withdrew it from his pocket. “Doc says knife to the heart is what killed Nate. No other mortal wounds or blows. Time of death harder to pinpoint since he was submerged in water. Guess is between eleven to one in the morning.”

“Not that it matters,” I said. “Supposedly, everyone was in bed asleep.”

Alex chuckled. “Yeah. We’re gonna need to break those alibis.” He kissed me again. “Text me when you and Serena get to The Spellmoore and head to bed?”

“Of course.”

“Meet up at the bakery tomorrow around eight?” Alex asked.

“Sounds good.”
